In early 2014 Toyota Australia established its DRIVE program (Dedicated, Ready, Individual, Vocation, Energised) to support its employees impacted by the closure of automotive manufacturing to obtain the appropriate skills and training while they are still employed to best position themselves for future employment opportunities.
Toyota is working collaboratively with the Australian Government and has made a $15 million contribution towards the Growth Fund - the Australian Government's response to the closure of automotive manufacturing by 2017. This support will be directed towards:
- the DRIVE program and delivered through the three DRIVE centres; and
- Toyota’s tier 1 OE supplier employees.
Toyota Australia will continue to operate its Altona based DRIVE centre until the end of June 2018. Both current and departed Toyota employees can access the centre with the range of services to be consistent to that offered to date (see below).
